Home of the South River
One of the best trout fisheries in Virginia!
Waynesboro, Virginia is nestled in the central Shenandoah Valley. The South River flows right through the heart of Downtown. Most of the river in-town is a Delayed Harvest fishery, which means this is a catch-and-release trout fishery from October 1 to June 1. In addition, the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the South River Fly Shop, with the help of angler donations, stocks additional trophy-sized rainbows. There's also a Special Regulations area for the Upper South River, outside of town. The South gets tremendous mayfly and caddis hatches year-round: caddis, quills and sulphurs in the Spring, tricos and hex in the Summer, and BWOs and midges through the fall and winter. And if that's not enough for you, we have great brook trout fishing in Shenandoah National Park and the George Washington National Forest.
Waynesboro is located near the intersection of I-81 and I-64. We're about 30 minutes from Charlottesville and 2 1/2 hours from D.C. The city boasts great bed and breakfasts and restaurants and other attractions such as shopping, art festivals, and the annual Virginia Fly Fishing Festival.
